About the Northern Alaska Environmental Center
Founded in 1971, the Northern Alaska Environmental Center (NAEC) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting conservation of the environment and sustainable resource stewardship in Interior and northern Alaska through education and advocacy.
NAEC works alongside communities, Tribal governments, grassroots organizations, and conservation partners to protect Alaska’s lands, waters, fish, wildlife, and natural resources. Our work includes public education, community organizing, environmental advocacy, research, and participation in state and federal decision-making processes
Position Overview
The Statewide Program Coordinator will support NAEC’s statewide organizing, community engagement, and advocacy efforts, with an initial emphasis on the Alaskans for Data Center Accountability (AFDCA) campaign.
AFDCA is a statewide effort, housed within NAEC, focused on ensuring that Alaskans have a meaningful voice in decisions about proposed data centers and associated energy and infrastructure development. The campaign emphasizes transparency, responsible use of public resources, protection of lands and waters, and community involvement in decisions that affect Alaska’s future.
While AFDCA will be a primary responsibility, this position is intended to strengthen NAEC’s overall statewide programmatic capacity. The coordinator will also support other regional and statewide coalitions, community-led initiatives, and partner programs working on conservation and environmental issues throughout Alaska.
The Statewide Program Coordinator will help connect community members, Tribal governments, local organizations, and advocates working on shared concerns about data center development, energy infrastructure, land use, public resources, and local decision-making.
The coordinator will organize outreach activities, public meetings, educational opportunities, and participation in public processes. This position will also support NAEC’s broader statewide partnerships and emerging conservation priorities.
We are looking for a self-motivated, organized, and collaborative individual who enjoys working with people, building relationships, coordinating projects, and helping communities participate in decisions affecting their lands, resources, and futures.
