The issues
We work to protect the various biomes and integrity of Interior and Northern Alaska by advocating for stewardship, responsible development, and environmental protection.
Subsistence hunting, fishing, and gathering are necessary throughout Interior and Northern Alaska, especially in our rural communities. We advocate for the protection of subsistence use and rights.
Alaska is warming at a rate two to three times faster than the rest of the globe. As permafrost melts, glaciers shrink, and animal migration patterns change, we look for realistic solutions to the negative impacts of climage change on Interior and Northern Alaska.
Alaska is home to some of the cleanest air and water in the country. We want to keep our air and water clean and healthy for future generations.
Northern and Interior Alaska have incredible biodiversity, from beluga whales in the Arctic Ocean to caribou in the interior. Fish and wildlife suffer from the impacts of climate change and human development and deserve protection and consideration.
Interior and Northern Alaska contain an abundance of natural resources, including oil and gas, lumber, minerals, and fish. The Northern Center advocates for responsible development that is conscious of subsistence use, vulnerable fish and wildlife populations, and impacts on remote communities.
