Public Comment Opportunities

Two major State processes are open for public input right now—your comments truly make a difference:

Northeast Alaska Area Plan (NEAAP)
The NEAAP determines how millions of acres of State land across Interior Alaska can be used or developed. Public comments help ensure that Tribal, subsistence, and conservation priorities are heard before these plans are finalized.

For the NEAAP, comments can be submitted through the DNR Public Notice Portal or by email to dnr.landplans@alaska.gov

DNR Oil & Gas Exploration License in the Yukon Flats
The Alaska Department of Natural Resources is accepting comments on Hilcorp Alaska’s proposed oil and gas exploration license in the Yukon Flats—an area that includes critical wetlands, salmon habitat, and communities who depend on clean water and subsistence resources.

You can email your comments to dog.bif@alaska.gov with the subject line: “Comment on Exploration in the Yukon Flats Solicitation Area”

Community Shoutout – Thank You Sean & Sharon!

A huge thank you to Sean and Sharon for hosting a Pre-Night for the North auction at their home on October 13. Thanks to their generosity and community spirit, we raised over $2,600 to support the Northern Center!

Your grassroots energy and commitment to our shared mission remind us what community looks like—neighbors coming together to protect the places and values we love. Thank you for helping make Night for the North a success before it even begins!

Typhoon Halong – MUTUAL AID NEEDED

Typhoon Halong has devastated communities across Western Alaska, particularly in the Yukon–Kuskokwim Delta. Homes are flooded, families displaced, and access to clean water, power, and medical care has been cut off. Entire villages—including Kipnuk, Kwigillingok, and Napakiak—are in urgent need of rescue support, shelter, and essential supplies.

PLEASE DONATE: Support community-led recovery efforts through the Alaska Community Foundation: https://bit.ly/43bYscv

With gratitude and determination,

The Board of Directors
