Northern Abundance Weekend, August 25-27, will be jam-packed with events celebrating all that the North has to offer. With events throughout Fairbanks Friday-Sunday, there is something for everyone. See below for a full schedule of events.

Conservation Film Screening | What to expect: We will be screening Diiyeghan naii Taii Tr’eedaa, Love is the Way, and Paving Tundra – three Alaska based films – and have relevant educational and action materials.

9:00 AM | Mushroom Survey w/ Fungi Fest | What to expect: This walk will be about 2 hours with Christin Swearingen and Dr. Gary Laursen leading and identifying finds. Dress for walking short distances outside on rough, possibly muddy trails and be prepared for rain. Class will only be canceled if air quality at the Woodriver Elementary School is over 150 AQI according to the Fairbanks North Star Borough site. The event is pay-what-you-like; donations go directly to support Fairbanks Fungi Festival! We can accept Venmo (@chagacoop) or cash in person. Please make a note “Saturday mushroom walk” if paying by Venmo.

10:00 AM | Berry Picking w/ Adventure Borealis | What to expect: Bring a lunch and binoculars if you have them, and come out to Murphy Dome to pick berries, enjoy fall tundra colors, and savor the last of summer in our backyard. With naturalist guide Ryan Arash Marsh, we will look for migrating alpine birds and learn about uses of various plant species that we encounter. Dress for the weather and expect to hike 1-2 miles including cross-country through the shrubby tundra. Special edition berry buckets provided!

1:00-4:00 PM | Far North Currant Festival | What to expect: The Far North Currant Festival will feature cooking demonstrations by Indigenous Chef Flora Deacon, berry taste tests, activities designed by UAF Nutrition Students in Biology 120x, youth activities and more!
