This summer, the Northern Alaska Environmental Center is excited to welcome Ella to the team!
Originally from Eugene, Oregon, Ella will be a senior this fall at Washington and Lee University, where she is majoring in Environmental Studies and Politics. Her studies have helped shape her interest in environmental policy, public lands, and the ways political decisions affect ecosystems, wildlife, and communities.
Ella has always felt connected to the outdoors. In her free time, she enjoys swimming, climbing, hiking, and camping — anything that lets her spend more time outside. That connection to the natural world is part of what drew her to the Northern Center’s work.
Ella was especially interested in this internship because of the unique and complex public lands issues Alaska is facing, including Public Land Orders and the impacts of current policies on wildlife, ecosystems, and surrounding communities. She is excited to learn more about these issues while contributing to education and awareness around the importance of public lands.
This summer, Ella looks forward to supporting the Northern Center’s meaningful work in environmental policy and education, and to being part of efforts that help protect Alaska’s lands, waters, wildlife, and communities.
