Transitions are challenging but necessary—changing from one condition to another, like melting ice or migrating north.
Each year I am so inspired by the Northern Center’s featured art. This year, fittingly, it’s a glacier set in landscape of beautiful lupines and tundra plants, with subtle shapes in the sky like breaking ice and bear tracks. It feels like an image of change and I remember that, in many cases, change is good.
From my research background in mycology, to Manager of Donor Joy at the Northern Center, I have grown so much and feel ready for the next step in my career. I’ve accepted a position at Trustees for Alaska as their Development Director. I know the wonderful staff at the Northern Center I leave behind will continue sharing the joy of what they do—conservation of lands, waters, wildlife, and the communities that depend on them—with you wonderful supporters! As new board members and staff come in, the organization is revitalized with fresh ideas. I look forward to keeping a strong relationship with the Northern Center as a volunteer.
I won’t be far away, either. Trustees for Alaska’s mission is to “provide legal services to protect and defend public lands, waterways, wildlife, wild foods, clean air and water, and communities”, and they work closely with Northern Center in many ways. How great is that?! Let’s work together to transition off fossil fuels, change the narrative on extractive gold mining, and bring a revolution at a time when it’s most needed.
Thank you and so long, for now.

P.S.—Speaking of change, this is a very volatile time economically and I know that can be unsettling. Keeping a long-horizon view will help. Please consider making gifts that will last, like monthly recurring gifts, asking about an employer match, or including the Northern Center in your will as a secondary beneficiary. Continuing to be generous in challenging times shows your family and community important values, and spreads hope. Thank you!
