Despite widespread national and Tribal opposition, Senator Sullivan has included language in the must-pass National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) in hopes to force the Ambler Road project forward. Tell Congress to STOP this action, which threatens Alaska Native communities and the wildlife and waterways in one of America’s largest intact and roadless landscapes.

Due to ongoing interest, we have extended the registration deadline for Making Good Trouble: Non-Violent Direct Action Training! This training, co-sponsored by the Northern Center, Fairbanks Climate Action Coalition, Alaska Peace Center, and the Young Alaskans Training Fund, is a two-day workshop teaching you the basics of nonviolent direct action, campaign strategy and development, and more.
We encourage all members of our community, regardless of your level of experience with organizing or direct action, to participate in this training. Let’s work towards the change we want to see in our community!

As climate change alters berry production in Alaska, communities find ways to adapt “Wild Alaska berries are one of the most nutritious and antioxidant-rich foods available. But Metlakatla is just one of many Alaska communities noticing dramatic changes in berry production,” writes Rachel Cassandra for Alaska Public Media. “Climate change is altering many different aspects of where, when and how berries grow. For the past two decades, researchers at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, or UAF, have been studying berries in Alaska.” |

A Good Wolf, A documentary film about wolves, wild places, and public land policy, will be shown at 6 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 27 at the McKinley Park Community Center, just off Mile 230 Parks Highway, for its Alaska premiere. It was created over the past five years in and around Denali, and Director Ramey Newell will be in attendance. Free.

Night for the North is Northern Center's annual auction and dinner. This year it will be held at the Birch Hill Recreation Area in Fairbanks on Nov. 9. Danielle Stickman, 2024 featured artist, will speak about her piece Ełnena ada. Proceeds from the event help support our programs, including the Jim Kowalsky Youth Engagement Fund.
