Voices for the Arctic Ocean
The people of Alaska have used the Arctic Ocean for thousands of years for subsistence, fisheries and recreation in a sustainable way. Here Alaskans testify during the Salazar Hearings held in Anchorage, Alaska on April 14, 2009.
Beaufort Sea
The bountiful waters of the Beaufort Sea is within the circumpolar Arctic Ocean. Beaufort Sea oil drilling threatens the fall bowhead whale migration corridor, polar bear habitats, and Inupiat hunting grounds off the Arctic Refuge coast.
Chukchi Sea
The richness (quality and biomass) of the Chukchi Sea, especially the forage fishes, are necessary for those marine mammals summering in the Chukchi, in order for them to enter winter in maximum health and associated indices.
