All events are free as part of the Northern Voices speaker series, organized by the Northern Alaska Environmental Center, a non-profit organization that promotes conservation of the environment in Interior and Arctic Alaska through advocacy, education, and sustainable resource stewardship. A tribute to author and poetess Marjorie Cole, featuring poetry and excerpts from her writings read by friends and fans.
Thursday, February 11: Northern Voices – Frank Keim “Birds and Yupik Culture”
In celebration of birds and Yupik culture in Southwest Alaska, Frank Keim will share photos and read some of the many poems he wrote while he and his wife Jennifer taught school for 21 years in the villages of Hooper Bay, Scammon Bay, Emmonak, and Marshall.

Thursday, April 8: Northern Voices – David Hayden “Designs for Northern Latitudes”
David Hayden, local architect, will share his designs that recognize our unique location, our focus on energy efficiency and sustainable development.
Thursday, May 13: Northern Voices - Bill Schneider “The People, Places, and Stories of our Alaskan Heritage”
UAF Oral Historian Bill Schneider will share stories from some of the people who have shared their lives with him through recordings of interviews. He will focus on stories that provide a sense of how people think about and remember their time on the land.
