The Northern Alaska Environmental Center (Northern Center) seeks a full-time Communications Coordinator to promote the Northern Center’s work and mission to a variety of audiences through multi-media platforms. The Northern Center addresses Arctic and sub-Arctic public land, resource, and climate change issues of regional and national significance. The Communications Coordinator will maintain the website and coordinate publication needs. The successful candidate will bring commitment to conservation and demonstrate excellent communication skills, fundraising and advocacy experience, flexibility, strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and strong computer savvy. This is a non-exempt, full-time position with health insurance and leave package benefits located in Fairbanks, Alaska. Salary commiserate with experience ranging from $$33,280 - $37,440.

Communications Coordinator | Full-time, non-exempt

This is a  non-exempt, full-time position with health insurance and leave package benefits located in Fairbanks, Alaska. Salary commiserate with experience ranging from $$33,280 - $37,440The successful candidate will bring commitment to conservation and demonstrate excellent communication skills, fundraising and advocacy experience, flexibility, strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and strong computer savvy.

Duties

  • Manage and coordinate all regular external print and electronic communications, including the newsletter, annual report, fundraising appeals and membership renewal letters, event PSAs, press releases, e-mail campaigns, and fliers.
  • Maintain all Northern Center social media platforms with created and/or curated content and regularly monitor social media metrics.
  • Lead process to keep website content updated, organized and functioning in coordination with program staff and regularly monitor website statistics.
  • Support program and organizational campaigns with relevant news media.
  • Process income from membership contributions.
  • Maintain donation and membership information database (Donor Pro).
  • Issue tax receipts and acknowledgement letters for members and donors.

Qualifications
  • BA or Advanced Degree in related field such as Communications, English, Journalism or 2 years of equivalent experience (e.g., working on political campaign or advocacy communications, or other public relations)
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communications skills
  • Significant experience with photo editing, document design, and website content management software
  • Social-media content generation and trends expertise
  • Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Experience handling sensitive and confidential issues
  • Ability to work quickly under deadline
  • Familiarity with environmental and/or conservation issues; knowledge of Arctic & Interior Alaska, a plus
