Support our work in the Arctic Refuge | Purchase a Print
For the past two years at our annual Night for the North we have had a featured artist. This year's featured artist was Klara Maisch and she generously donated her work, "Sagavanirktok I" to be made into prints for sale at the auction. This year the print sale supports the Northern Center's work in Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. Specifically, to facilitate veteran visitation to the Refuge for recovery.
From Artist, Klara Maisch:
"Like so many fellow Alaskans, I am driven by the pursuit of exploring the wild places of Alaska. There are so many intriguing issues at play in these wild areas; the politics of society vs. nature, the balance between experiencing and preserving a place, the many meanings of "wilderness" as seen through scientific, personal, moral, legal, and political lenses...if we are lucky enough to be able to stop and take a moment to just look, we tend to be instantly humbled by the sheer awesomeness of the place. All at once, it makes us feel immense and small, complicated and simple, chaotic and complete, independent and yet intricately connected. Painting in these wild places is a way to sit in that moment."
