The Yukon Flats Refuge hosts millions of migrating waterfowl, moose, wolves, Dall sheep, Yukon River salmon, Arctic grayling, and other wildlife.
There are 150 species of birds which nest, feed, and migrate which fly from 43 of the 50 states to these important refuge lands.
At least 39 mammal species have been observed in the refuge.
The Yukon Flats is a key habitat for wildlife within the Yukon River watershed dotted with over 20,000 lakes.
Chinood (king), chum (dog), and coho (silver) salmon travel more than 2,000 miles from the Bering Sea up the Yukon River to their spawning grounds -- the longest distance from the ocean for any salmon.
