The goal of the 5-year plan organizer is to engage the Fairbanks and interior Alaska community through education and outreach on the outer continental shelf 5-year plan set to release through the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management by the end of March or early April. This part-time position will build skills for grassroots organizing, event organization, and public engagement.

Part-Time Position Description

Job Title: Fairbanks 5-year plan Organizer

Direct Supervisor: Program Director, Jessica J. Girard

Location: Fairbanks, AK

 

Description and Goals of Assignment:

The goal of the 5-year plan organizer is to engage the Fairbanks and interior Alaska community 

through education and outreach on the outer continental shelf 5-year plan set to release through 

the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management by the end of March or early April. This part-time 

position will build skills for grassroots organizing, event organization, and public engagement.


Responsibilities:

The 5-year plan organizer will encourage public participation through a multi-faceted 

communications plan including public tabling events, canvasing, social media, traditional media, 

flyers, petitions signing, action alerts and e-mail campaign(s). The organizer will coordinate an 

evening event, phone banking, and letter writing opportunities to ensure hearing appearance by 

Alaskans as well as substantive comments from Alaskans on the 5-year leasing plan. The 

organizer will also take primary responsibility for carrying out the social media elements of the 

5-year plan campaign leading up to public comment closure. This includes uploading/managing 

Facebook and Twitter content for the campaign and monitoring public social media activity. All 

work will be completed under the supervision and guidance of the program director.

 

Intern Qualifications:

 Excellent interpersonal communication.

 Social media, website, and graphic design experience desirable

 Ability to work independently and as part of a team

 Passion for conservation

 Proficiency with MS Office

 Outgoing

 Good organization

 Event coordination experience preferred
