Don’t Be Fuelish Fairbanks! Are gas prices stressing you out? This summer organizations around Fairbanks will compete in the 6th annual “Don’t Be Fuelish Competition.” To save fuel for your organization you can car pool, take the bus, bike, walk, or run to work. Since 2007, the Don’t Be Fuelish Competition has conserved 18,757 gallons of gas, and saved its participants $71,762! So join us in the effort to save fuel this summer and keep your cash in your wallet!! Recent research done by our staff and others has shown that coal ash disposal sites frequently contaminate surface water and groundwater.   This report addresses a more specific question, and it has to do with federal solid waste law. Subtitle D of the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) prohibits disposal of solid waste in a way that causes certain kinds of groundwater contamination.
