THIS SUNDAY-Run for the Refuge! Register NOW!

On Sunday, July 29th, NAEC will host its 16th annual Run for the Refuge at the UAF West Ridge Ski Hut. The event is a community-centered 5k and 10k for walkers and runners of all ages to support the Arctic Refuge. This year, the two participants who raise the most money through pledges will win a gift certificate for a round trip ticket to the arctic with Wright Air!

Get ready to Run for the Refuge!

This fun, community-centered 5k and 10k walk and run gives you the opportunity to get outside, exercise, and learn about the arctic, and raise vital funds and awareness for our 40-year campaign to protect the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.

Event Details

Sunday, July 29

UAF West Ridge Ski Hut

  • 12:00pm: Sign-in and day-of packet pickup
  • 1:00pm: Race starts
  • 2:30pm: Prizes!


This year we have two ways to register:

1. Register ONLINE now!

2. Stop by NAEC (830 College Road) to fill out a paper form

Register by July 24 for the best prices!

Adult: $25

Child (12 and under): $15

Late registration fees (7/25-7/29):

Adult: $30

Child: $20

You can pick up your runner packet on Friday, July 27 at NAEC from 12-6pm or at 12pm on the day of the race.


This year, we are asking participants to gather pledges for every mile they run or walk.  Ask your friends, family, and neighbors to help support the Arctic.  Donations will go directly to NAEC's arctic program.  Learn more about the Arctic Program here.  The two highest pledge-gatherers will win gift certificate for a round trip ticket to anywhere Wright Air flies (all over the Arctic!) Please make pledge checks payable to the Northern Alaska Environmental Center.
